The Maritime Museum brings maritime history to our time. The museum's collection is one of the largest and most distinguished maritime collections in the world with approximately 400,000 objects, including paintings, ship models, navigational instruments and world maps. Het Scheepvaartmuseum shows how the sea is in the genes of the Netherlands.
The building used to be a warehouse that served as a repository for sails, ropes, weapons and ammunition. Today, you can visit it through stimulating, interactive exhibitions where everyone can discover 500 years of maritime history in their own way.
V.O.C. ship
Next to the Maritime Museum is an impressive replica of a V.O.C. ship that sailed around the world in the Golden Age.
